Ohio Concrete Sawing and Drilling, the industry’s premier concrete removal service, successfully completed one of its most challenging projects – removing 1.2 million pounds of concrete from the University of Michigan’s hospital complex. Typical activity,over the course of one-year, at the U of M hospital complex includes:

• 43,000 admissions
• 60,000 surgeries
• 1,500,000 clinic visits
• 72,000 urgent care visits
• 3,800 deliveries of new babies

The successful removal of the 1.2 million pounds of concrete in 3 x 7-foot pieces of ceiling weighing about 1,000 pounds and the removal of a 7,600-square-foot 6 to 10-inch concrete floor presented numerous challenges such as:

• Maintaining minimal hospital interruption of services and activities
• Working hours convenient to hospital personnel and patients and thus reducing thenoise factor
• Using only electric concrete saws, fork trucks and excavators to avoid gas fumes and vibrations

Following the successful concrete removal, Ohio Concrete Sawing and Drilling moved the pieces by elevator and transported to dumpsters. The U of M then made every effort to recycle the building materials.
